We aim to make buying a vehicle at Newark Motor Auctions as simple and stress-free as possible. To help, we’ve answered some of the most common questions here. Feel free to get in touch if you need to know more.

Do I need to register and do I need a bidding number?


No, you don’t need to register to bid and we don’t use bidding numbers. To bid, just make sure you’re in the hall and make yourself known to the auctioneer by raising your hand. Don’t be subtle. The auction hall is a busy place, with lots going on. So be bold and confident.

How long can I leave the vehicle once it’s paid for?


Although we prefer vehicles to be paid for and taken away on the night of the auction, we understand that occasionally this isn’t practical. Vehicles can be left in our compound at the owner’s risk (responsibility falls to the purchaser as soon as the hammer falls) and we won’t charge storage for the first seven days. If you’re leaving a vehicle with us, please also leave the keys as we may need to move it.

After seven days, storage is charged at a rate of £10 per day and night. Please note that any storage fees will need to be settled in full before the vehicle can be released.

How does the free drive away insurance work?


To obtain 5 days free insurance, first pick up a leaflet containing our dealer code. You can ring the number on that leaflet and once you’ve answered a few simple questions (just like a normal insurance quote), if you and your vehicle match the insurer’s criteria, you’ll be supplied with a cover note lasting five days, free of charge. Once the 5 days are up, you’re under no obligation to take on the full policy.

If I sell a vehicle, how quickly will I receive my funds?


Once your vehicle has been paid for, a cheque will be raised and posted out to you on the following sale day. For instance, if your vehicle sells on a Tuesday, the cheque will be raised and posted out to you 1st class on Thursday.

Can I bid online?


Yes. Several of our auctions are also broadcast across the internet via our LiveBid system. To use this, simply register as a LiveBid user. You can then watch and hear the auction on your mobile, tablet or PC as it happens, and bid on selected LiveBid vehicles with a click – as if you were there in the auction hall itself. What should I do with the yellow portion of my V5?


Once you’ve received our invoice, fill out our details on the left hand side; this is headed Name and address of motor trader. You’ll find our address on the invoice. Then simply sign the V5C/3 on the top right. As we act as an agent between the vendor and purchaser, we DO NOT need to counter sign it, despite what it says.

Once you’ve signed the V5, simply post it to the address on the rear of the yellow slip (DVLA Swansea SA99 1BD). That’s it!

Can I come and have a look at the vehicles?


Yes, of course. You can visit our auction centre and view all vehicles every Tuesday and Thursday, anytime between 1.00pm and 4.00pm.

What should I do if the vehicle I purchase has no documents?


On rare occasions, documents can be sent to us after sale. If this happens, we will happily forward them on to you. However, the quickest way to obtain a V5 is by filling out a V62 Form at your local post office. A fee of £25 may be payable.
